Airsoft law in Northern Ireland is different

Northern Ireland has its own firearms law, the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004. Figures quoted online for the rest of the UK may not match it.

The Order defines an air gun as a firearm powered by compressed air or gas (Article 2). Under Schedule 1, paragraph 9, one that can fire above a set energy level needs a firearm certificate; paragraph 9(3) adds conditions for under-18s. Paragraph 8 lifts that requirement at a combat-games facility whose operator holds a certificate for the gun, within upper limits, except for anyone under 16. We haven't confirmed whether any Northern Ireland site works this way.

Having an air gun or imitation firearm in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse is an offence (Article 61). So is an under-18 buying an imitation firearm, or anyone selling one to them (Article 66A). Making, selling or bringing a realistic imitation firearm into Northern Ireland is an offence under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, Schedule 2, paragraph 4, subject to defences.

We describe the law and don't give legal advice. Ask your site, and the PSNI, before buying or carrying one. Our BB gun laws guide has more.

How we check Northern Ireland listings

We run every Northern Ireland listing against the UKARA and BAC registers every Monday. When we checked on 21 October 2026, most Northern Ireland listings were on the UKARA or BAC register. UKARA's approved list includes sites in Northern Ireland.

A rolling website check reaches each listed site about once a week. If a site's website stops loading, we flag it on the listing so you know to ring first. We have listed airsoft venues since 2019. We list fields - we don't run games, sell guns or give legal advice.

Airsoft in Northern Ireland: common questions

Are airsoft guns legal in Northern Ireland?

Northern Ireland has its own law, the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004. It requires a firearm certificate for an air gun above an energy level set in Schedule 1, paragraph 9, and makes having one in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse an offence (Article 61). The law section above has more. For your own case, ask your site or the PSNI.

Is there indoor airsoft in Northern Ireland?

Yes. The Mill in Portadown is fully indoor, with open sessions four days a week. In Belfast, Lagan Airsoft in Dunmurry and Trigger Happy in the east of the city both run indoor arenas.

How old do you have to be to play airsoft in Northern Ireland?

Published minimums run from 10 (FRV) to 12 (The Mill, Trigger Happy and Predator); Torrent and Battle Camp take players from 11. Some add conditions: FRV needs a consent form signed by a parent or guardian for anyone 17 or under, and Predator needs a parent or guardian on site for under-16s. Ask the site before you book.

Do I need UKARA to play?

No. UKARA is a free register that lets a shop check you're a genuine skirmisher. It isn't a licence, and you don't need it to play. Its approved list includes Northern Ireland sites, but ukara.org.uk doesn't say how it fits Northern Ireland law - ask your site.

What does a day's airsoft cost in Northern Ireland?

Where sites publish a price, an outdoor walk-on with your own kit is £20 to £25, and a full day with rental is £35 to £45. Indoor arenas charge by time: £10 an hour at The Mill, or £18 a session at Trigger Happy. Our guide to what airsoft costs covers the rest.
