Airsoft in Winter and the Rain: What Sites Do
Can you play airsoft in the rain? Usually, yes. What 43 UK sites say about rain, cancellations, refunds, winter hours and cover, from their own websites.
Yes - most UK airsoft sites play in the rain. Of the 43 sites we checked, 4 say outright that rain doesn't stop play, and 6 say they may cancel in severe weather. Plenty of sites run game days right through winter, but they finish earlier as the light goes. Refund rules and shelter vary, so check before you book.
Everything here comes from the 43 sites' own websites, checked on 7 October 2026. New to the game? Our guide to what airsoft is explains how a game day runs.
Does rain stop an airsoft game?
Rain on its own rarely stops a game. South Coast CQB answers the question in its FAQ: "What happens if it rains? You'll get wet. Use common sense; bring a towel or change of clothes if you think you'll need it." Gunman Airsoft, NTAC and Skirmish Wycombe say the same.
Severe weather is different. Six sites say they may cancel or close for it. Gunman sets the bar highest: it does not cancel "unless it is impossible to get to site or deemed too dangerous". Skirmish Wycombe may pause a game during torrential rain and restart once it eases.
Only 3 of the 43 say how they'd tell you, and none says how far ahead. Wycombe puts it plainly: unless the site contacts you to say it's closed, your session goes ahead. On a wet morning, check your email and the site's social pages before you set off.
What happens to your money if a game is called off?
Five of the 43 sites say what happens when they cancel for weather. Tactical Delta promises a full refund. Skirmish Wycombe and South Coast CQB let you choose between a new date and a refund. S51 offers a rescheduled session or credit, and Black Ops Bristol talks about rescheduling.
Counting cancellations for any reason, 10 of the 43 publish a term. The other 33 say nothing, so read the booking terms or ask.
Staying at home is not the same as a cancellation. If the game goes ahead and you decide not to go, Gunman is clear: "No refunds will be given due to inclement weather." Wycombe's terms say the same. Our guide to airsoft costs covers deposits and booking fees.
Do airsoft sites close for winter?
Only one of the 43 says it does. Players of War states a winter break: its last game of 2026 is on 13 December, and it reopens on 24 January. Nine sites already list game days for December or later, including Christmas specials.
The days get shorter, though. Seven sites tie their finish time or arrival time to daylight. Ace Combat's day runs to "4.00pm Game ends or until we lose the light in the winter." The Fort lists a 5pm finish but says finish time is "light and player dependent". Don't plan the drive home around a fixed time.
A few sites change the format. Ironsight runs Friday evening games from October to March. No Man's Land's winter Saturdays carry on into the dark. Ironsight also allows some grenades and pyro only from 1 October to 31 March, which is the one winter-only rule we found. Our guide to airsoft rules covers grenades and pyro.
Indoor sites and covered areas
Nine of the 43 sites are indoor or CQB-only, and two sell that as the answer to winter. The Mill NI says: "Because the entire venue is indoors and well-lit, sessions can run all year round, through winter, bad weather, dark evenings, and everything Northern Ireland throws at us." Scorpion Airsoft makes a similar point. Our guide to CQB and woodland sites explains how indoor play differs.
Outdoor sites can still keep you out of the rain between games. Seven have a covered or sheltered safe zone, among them Sixmil, Area 66 and Cotswold Airsoft. Sixmil's are floodlit: "in the winter months when it can be dark when the site opens and dark when it closes, the flood lit shelters mean you will be able to pack and unpack easily."
None of the 43 confirms a heated room, a drying room or showers. Only two mention a changing area. Bring dry clothes and a bag for wet kit.
Mud, cold and fogged-up goggles
Expect mud at woodland sites. Eleven sites mention mud or wet ground, and Sixmil's safety brief tells players to keep off steep banks and slopes in very heavy rain. The Fort bans wellies, and Skirmish Wycombe advises against them because they don't give enough grip. For boots and layers, see our guide to what to wear for airsoft.
Five sites mention goggles steaming up, and Players of War sells anti-fog spray on site. Players of War also notes that mesh goggles don't steam up, but mesh isn't allowed everywhere: Scorpion and HQ Airsoft ban mesh eye protection. Check the site's rules before you buy, and read why eye protection matters in our guide to whether airsoft hurts.
None of the 43 sites says anything about how the cold affects gas guns or batteries. If you're bringing your own gun, ask the site or the gun's maker. Eleven sites offer battery charging on site.
What to check before a winter game day
- Does the site cancel for weather, and how will you hear?
- What happens to your money if it does, or if you don't go?
- When does play finish once the light goes?
- Is there a covered safe zone?
- Can you charge batteries or buy gas on site?

The 43 lean towards organised, well-documented sites with a working website and a published power limit, so the counts aren't UK-wide rates. "Not stated" doesn't mean a site has no policy.
